Books, P.O. Box 438, Shrewsbury SY3 0WN, UK. or by PAYPAL to John@waddysweb.freeuk.com Hymns from the Classics A collection of hymns based on classical music themes by David Grundy and John Waddington-Feather. A4. £6.99 $14 U.S. ISBN: 1 84175 213 4 Following hard on their successful collection of new hymns, “Seasons and Occasions”, (published by Feather Books in 2004) David Grundy and John Waddington-Feather have collaborated again to produce “Hymns from The Classics”. In an inspired six months’ work, from July 2004 to January 2005, they composed 50 new hymns all set to themes from classical music. They, like the first collection, cover most of the Church’s calendar and other services in church. An innovation in this collection are a couple of hymns which allow for choreography, now becoming popular as a form of liturgy. In the ancient Jewish church dancing was routine in worship. It was an expression of joy and praise. King David danced before the Lord (2 Samuel 6) and dancing was part of the liturgy of the Temple (Psalms 149 and 150). In our own age, dance is a completely natural part of Christian worship across Africa and elsewhere. So well known are some of these tunes that we hope they will bring new life into church worship; that both congregational and choral worship will be fired by these new hymns and enjoy singing them to the Lord, as much as we enjoyed composing them for the Lord. This volume of 50 hymns is the result of many years’ work by Revd. John-Waddington-Feather and his friend and former schoolteacher colleague, David Grundy. Some of the items in the Psalm Section (Nos. 38-50) date from an earlier, unpublished collection entitled A Christian Psalter. The hymns and songs here may be sung in unison, or as solos where appropriate and there are also opportunities for four-part singing. They may be accompanied by the piano or the organ. A new music book for 2004. Price £6.95 Order a copy today from Feather Books |

This is the third collection of hymns by David Grundy and John Waddington-Feather; the other two are: "Seasons and Occasions Book 1" and "Hymns from the Classics." Like the other two collections, "Seasons and Occasions Book 2" cover most of the Church’s Calendar and other services within the Church. And as in the previous collections, there are hymns for soloists and choir, as well as congregational hymns. Hymns which may appeal to specific bodies and organisations are: Hymn 1 - Mothers’ Union; Hymn 8 - Amnesty Hymn; Hymn 29 - Church Army Hymn; Hymn 5 - Sunday School Hymn; Hymn 40 - Christian Aid and Oxfam. Some hymns, too, are based on tunes from classical music: Hymn 12 (Beethoven); Hymn 15 (Schubert); Hymn 38 (Bizet). Finally, there are some hymns which may lend themselves to choreography. We leave you to decide which ones! Price £6.95 Order a copy today from Feather Books |
